Types of Artificial Nails
Artificial nails are worn as decorative coatings or extensions over natural nails and are also known as false nails. These nails are applied using water-resistant glue which can be done both at home or at salon. There are certain types of artificial nails which are mostly preferred by many women as they give beauty to the nails and need less maintenance. Let us look at the various types of artificial nailslisted in detail in the following article.
Types of Artificial Nails
  • Acrylic Nails
These are the strongest and the most durable artificial nails. But, if they are not glued properly, they give out totally an artificial look. Therefore, it is preferred to go to a salon for getting these nails done. Acrylic nails are filled in every two to three weeks. Also removing them should be done by a professional.
  • Sculptured Nails
This is second category of artificial nails where in the manicurist makes use of fiberglass, gel or acrylic. After applying any of the above material, it is lengthened accordingly and metal or foil is sculpted over it. Another way of keeping these nails is to apply glue over it and then keep a plastic nail tip on it. Over this, acrylic, silk, fiberglass or gel is laid depending on the choice. The artificial tip is filed down to give a neat look.
  • Silk, Linen and Fiber Wraps
The pieces of silk, linen or fiber are cut into desired shapes and then pasted on the nail plate. Wraps are advantageous as they make the nail strong and also make them appear lengthy. Fiber is the best nail wrap amongst other nail wraps as it gives natural look of silk with its smooth texture. These fiber wraps are therefore great to look at and will not break that easily.
  • Gel Nails
Gel nails were earlier made using dental porcelain gel powder but now they are made using Mylar form. They are applied and set with an aid of ultraviolet light. These artificial nails give a shining and smooth look and the greatest advantage of these nails are they can be filled less often than acrylic nails.
