July 16, 2011 Eye Liner Tips

Thick eyeliners are in Vogue. It's like replicating the 60s look. It is a very easy and simple look, since you don't need any elaborate makeup. For those who find this look too overwhelming you can stick to a thinner eyeliner, which suits most eye shapes. Liquid and pencil liners are passe. Gel liners are a hit, not only with celebrities but also with the masses. They are waterproof and also easy to apply. So even amateurs can get creative and quirky.
1. Take those baby steps towards innovation if you are the types who detest change. While lining your eyes, don't stop at the outer edge. Extend the line.
2. If you don't feel daring enough to change your style all of a sudden, then try lining your lower lashline for a change. Also apply kohl on the waterline to give your eyes a defined look.
3. For a more dressy, decked up look, try drawing a thicker line on both the upper and lower eyelids. This looks especially good on people with big eyes.
4. If you have small eyes, then create an impression of large, doe-like eyes by lining only the outer edges, both upper and lower, of your eyes. You can also apply golden highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes, to get an open, wide-eyed look.
5. Remember the staple look of every Hollywood icon of the 60's? Winged eyeliner, bold, red lips and beautiful, flowing waves are making a comeback.
7. This look stands out without being dramatic. Draw very thin lines on the upper and lower lids but do not join them at the outer edges. The upper line is like the winged eyeliner while the lower line should be drawn parallel to it.
8. This is a slight variation from the previous style. The upper and lower lines should just touch each other and not join into one line at the outer edge. Try lining your waterline with a white kohl pencil to make your eyes look big.
9. Some people like to line only their lower lashline to create a grunge look. But if you are miss-prim-and-perfect and the grunge look is too rough and jagged for you, then try this structured style. It needs a steady hand, which means loads of practise.
10. Draw a winged eyeliner on the upper eyelid and a line across the lower lid. But make sure that the lower line is a little away from the lashline and extends all the way parallel to the winged line. Note that the line on the upper eyelid has a sharp edge in the inner corner.
11. Try this one if you are bold and chutzpah about yourself. It needs a lot of daring to carry off this look but you'll definitely stand out from the rest (in a great way).
12. If you are enthusiastic about trying new colours in eyeliners, then try mixing two colours to get an amazing look this. You can club black with copper-brown, yellow with metallic green and so on.
The way you do up your eyes can actually alter your looks. Just like everyday is not the same, why should your look be the same day after day, year after year? Try experimenting with colours if not the style and don a different look everyday. Go girl! You rock!
Tips for beautifully lined eyes:
- Master the technique of applying eyeliners. If your eyeliner looks like the readings from a heart rate monitor, wipe it off and start all over again. Because it will make even the most beautiful eyes look ugly.
- Line your lower lashline with a brown eyeliner if you must. Avoid black as everyone cannot carry off black on the lower lashline with panache. Also, black looks harsh on the lower lid.
- Orange is in vogue as is fuschia pink. Try from a range of yellows, greens, blues to get varied looks. A night-out with friends is the perfect occassion to dress up your eyes with colour.
