August 03, 2011 Bathe Safely With Newly Pierced Ears/Cartilage

Tear or cut a small piece of micropore tape and gently stick it over your ear lobe, covering the front and back of the piercing.


Thoroughly saturate hair with tepid water. During this step, It is near impossible to protect your ears, but try not to get too much water in the piercing.


Gently apply shampoo to your hair, trying to stay away from the ears


Rinse off in softly flowing water.


If you use conditioner, apply a tiny bit to the ends of your hair.


Rinse off the tiny bit of conditioner and turn off water



  1. Fill bathtub with bubble bath soap and tepid water.
  2. Dip your hair in the bathtub, trying not to get your ears wet, and lay in bathtub, with your head out of the watery soap mixture.
  3. Apply conditioner to the tips of your hair (if you use conditioner).
  4. Stay in tub until you think you've gotten clean enough
    1. If you use conditioner, now apply leave-in conditioner anywhere you like on your hair.

      Towel dry your body.

      Do not use a regular towel on freshly pierced ears. Normal towels can harbor bacteria and increase the risk for infection. Use a new tissue, napkin, or paper towel to clean safely around the ear.

      Go on with your normal after-shower in-bathroom routine, being careful of your ears.

      Reapply your ear care antiseptic to your ears.
