July 27, 2011 The wide world of cosmetics

The wide world of cosmetics

Cosmetics have long been the basis for personal expression, and to give women a way to change their appearance quickly. This hasn’t always been a healthy way to express ourselves, as the past has shown us. Take for example the Victorian women who rubbed charcoal on their eyes, and used lead based cosmetics on their faces. Or the women who used poison berries to obtain a “healthy” glow.
The world of cosmetics is rapidly changing, with trends changing every few months. Those bright neon colors and colored mascaras of the 1980s have given way to paler colors and darker lashes. They say that history repeats itself, and we see this quite often with cosmetics. The thick black eyeliner and bright red lips that were popular in Hollywood during the 1940s are the type of look that constantly reappears throughout the years.
As makeup and cosmetics change frequently, it may be difficult to learn just how to create different looks, and to even decide what different terms mean. To clarify that, we’ve compiled a list of some of the more popular trends and terms in the cosmetics world.
MAKEUP BRUSHES
Makeup brushes are an absolute must for anyone who ever wears makeup. These brushes allow you to achieve a professional look, without adding any time to your daily routine. You can find these brushes at any store that sells cosmetics, and there are brushes to fit any budget.
BARE MINERALS
Bare minerals is a cosmetics line that was introduced in the late 1970′s. This cosmetics line has a number of different types and colors, and is rumored to be one of the best lines around.
MINERAL MAKEUP
Mineral makeup is believe by some to be all natural, and free from the typical fragrances and preservatives used in traditional makeup. Recently though the mineral line has expanded to include any product that is made with minerals. If you need all natural products, make sure you read the ingredients listing carefully.
AIR STOCKING
Air stockings are quite literally pantyhose in a can. This looks quite similar to a can of hairspray, but gives your legs a covered look. This is great for anyone who has blemishes or imperfections on their legs that prevent them from wearing skirts and dresses.
COSMETIC MIXERS
Cosmetic mixers were products designed to be mixed and matched. Some cosmetics manufacturers release these products in small sets, which include an empty pot in the kit. Users can combine several lip glosses, blushes, or eye shadows to create a brand new color.
FOUNDATION BRUSHES
Foundation brushes can be used with powder foundations, or bronzers. It may be difficult to use these brushes with a liquid foundation because it causes the bristles to fall out, and the brushes will need to be cleaned more frequently.
POWDER FOUNDATIONS
Powder foundations come in two forms: those that are heavier to hide more severe skin problems, and those that are lighter. Depending on your needs you may prefer one, or like to combine the two to create a blended look.
BEAUTY
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the beauty and cosmetics industry wouldn’t exist unless people had a different version of what they find beautiful.
EYELASHES
Those who want to change the look of their eyelashes have two real options. They can use mascara, or apply fake eyelashes. Mascara is a good choice for beginners because it can easily be applied, and make lashes look longer and thicker.
DERMABLEND
Dermablend cosmetics were designed for those with severe facial distortions or imperfections. The makeup is designed to cover up these problems, and is often used by professional makeup artists. This is a good choice for anyone who is uncomfortable, or embarrassed about a certain issue with their face.
